Lucky W Ranch

Meet our other critters here. Sorry, none of these are for sale, we are just showing off more of our menagerie! :)

 Heidi

Heidi is 25 lb., all muscle and charm. She is 1/2 blue heeler, 1/4 pug, and 1/4 beagle and inherited the short stout frame of the pug, the bark of the beagle, and the intelligence of the heeler. She was born March 2, 2007 at the Republic Pound. I adopted her when she was 3 months old and she has been a bundle of fun ever since! She is full of energy and loves everyone. She helps me herd my goats, she gets along with all the livestock, no matter how tiny they are! In fact, she is the best adoptive parent to my bottle kids as you can find. Too bad she can't nurse them too! She is a very obedient, very sweet, loving dog with a puppy playfulness all the time. Just look at that face! Isn't she just precious?!

 Kibbles

Kibbles was a stray who I took in off the streets in 2002 when she was just a puppy. She is about 6 years old now. She is a Walker coonhound, weighs about 25 lbs, and is the BEST house dog ever! She is a sweet dog who loves everyone and gets jealous easily. She will hold a grudge for a long time if you don't show her enough attention but if you give her enough, she is as loyal as dogs can be. She doesn't like other dogs...she's too dignified most of the time to play with anyone but if a person just touches her, she's in heaven. She can show her emotions very well through facial expressions and understands english perfectly. Kibbles is a very good house/ranch dog...couldn't ask for a better one.

 Kitty

Kitty was a stray kitten at only about 6 weeks old. I think she was dumped by someone on my road in 2004. I took her in and got her started on cat food and litter training and she's been with me ever since. At first, I didn't know what I'd gotten into....she was WILD! She would bounce off the walls and furniture, literally. Then, she'd settle down into a ball of fluff in my lap and take a sweet nap, just to get up later and go wild again. Luckily, when she was older, she calmed down quite a bit. Now she is a very sweet, loving cat who enjoys any attention anyone will give her.

 Socks and Junior

Socks and Junior came to me at a dead, panicked run. They were being chased by my donkey! I could tell they were strays because they were half-starved and looked terrible. It didn't help that they were panting and about to drop of heat exhaustion. They were only about 9 or 10 weeks old. I set them up with some cat food and milk which they ate very quickly. Of course, they have been here ever since! I think they are brother-sister and they are very close. Both are sweet and loving...I think they are grateful for getting a home. They will just love a person to death. Socks is on the left, Junior on the right.

 Bessie and Bonnie

This is Bessie, our Coriente cow. We bought her to use for roping practice and tracking our young horses. We also plan on getting a few calves out of her as well. She is an 05 model and has a beautiful registered Durango sire.

On March 10, 2008, Bessie surprised us with a baby calf!! I guess when the neighbor's herd got in our field, their Angus bull got to know Bessie! She had a gorgeous little heifer calf, named Bonnie. We are so proud of Bessie and Bonnie! We rebred Bessie (on purpose this time!) for another calf next spring. She is currently bred to a full-blooded Jersey bull.

Grace

Grace, or sometimes I call her Gracie, was born October 12, 2007. She is a sweet little gray dun miniature donkey jenny. She is my goat herd guardian. She is somewhat halter broke, sweet, gentle, and loves a good scratch on the withers. It's really cute because she's about the same size as some of my dairy goats! :)

Frodo and Samwise

Shetland Sheep Rams

Frodo and Samwise are purebred Shetland sheep rams. Frodo (above) was born April 15, 2007. Samwise (below) was born September 12, 2008. They are both beautiful with great fleecy wool. I'm especially impressed with the quality and softness of Samwise's wool. We will be using them for their wool and of course, loving them as pets. They are also available to the public for breeding.
